You Don't Have to Be Good at CrossFit to Start

There’s a funny thing about starting something new.
We often feel like we should already be good at it before we even begin.
We think we need to get in shape before we join a gym. We need to lose some weight first. We need to get stronger. We need to know what a snatch is. We need to be able to do a pull-up. We need to have some idea what we’re doing.
Basically, we think we need to become the person who belongs in the gym before we walk through the doors.
But that’s not how this works.
You don’t have to be good at CrossFit to belong at CrossFit Chesapeake.
In fact, you probably won’t be.
And that’s okay.
You may not know how to do a double-under. You may struggle with a movement someone else seems to do effortlessly. You may need to use a lighter weight, modify a movement, or take more breaks than the person next to you.
That doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re learning.
One of the things we love most about CrossFit is that the workout can meet you exactly where you are.
The person who has been training for ten years and the person walking through our doors for the first time can do the same workout while using completely different weights, movements, and modifications.
And neither person is “less than.”
Because the goal isn’t to be the best person in the room.
The goal is to become a little better than you were yesterday.
Maybe today that means adding five pounds to your lift.
Maybe it means doing your first pull-up.
Maybe it means walking into the gym even though you almost talked yourself out of coming.
Maybe it means choosing a weight that allows you to move well instead of choosing the weight that looks impressive on the whiteboard.
Maybe it means simply showing up again.
That is progress, too.
We don’t expect you to walk through our doors already strong, confident, coordinated, or experienced.
That’s what we’re here for.
We’ll teach you. We’ll coach you. We’ll help you modify movements when you need to. We’ll celebrate your wins and encourage you through the frustrating days.
And eventually, you’ll look back and realize that the things that once felt impossible don’t feel quite so impossible anymore.
That’s the really cool part.
You don’t have to be good at CrossFit to start.
You just have to be willing to start.
And we’ll meet you there.
Because you don’t earn your place in this community by being fit. You belong here because you’re willing to take the next step.
Have an amazing week. We’ll see you in the gym 💪🙏
