What Your Coach Sees that You Don't

Have you ever walked out of the gym thinking, “That wasn’t my best workout.”
Maybe you had to scale the workout. Maybe the weight felt heavier than usual. Maybe you were slower than the person next to you. Or maybe you simply didn’t feel like you performed your best.
As coaches, we hear those thoughts more often than you might think.
But here’s the interesting part…
We’re usually seeing something completely different.
While you’re focused on the one thing that didn’t go well, we’re noticing all the things that did.
We see that your squat is deeper than it was a month ago.
We see that you’re moving with more confidence.
We notice that you didn’t hesitate before picking up the barbell.
We see you encouraging the person next to you, even when your own workout was challenging.
We remember when you walked through our doors for the first time, unsure of what to expect. Now you’re checking in, greeting people by name, and tackling movements you once thought were impossible.
Those are the victories that matter.
Progress isn’t always adding more weight to the bar or setting a personal record. Sometimes it’s showing up on a day you didn’t feel like coming. Sometimes it’s choosing consistency over perfection. Sometimes it’s simply believing you’re capable of more than you did yesterday.
As coaches, our job isn’t just to count reps or correct your form. It’s to help you see the progress that’s easy to overlook when you’re living it.
So the next time you leave class feeling like you could have done better, remember this:
Your coach probably saw a win that you didn’t.
And those small wins, repeated over time, are exactly what lead to lasting transformation.
What is one improvement you’ve made recently that you’re proud of—even if it’s not a PR?
Have an amazing week. We’ll see you in the gym 💪🙏
